Details
The instrument features a variety of articulations, including slides, ornaments, and a distinctive ‘finger-tapping’ pizzicato. Percussion elements consist of a gong drum, shaman drum, rainmaker, and frame drum, all playable in both standard and non-standard styles, such as muted hits and rubber ball bowing. The Shaman's vocalizations include arcane mutterings and humming that transitions through multiple vowels, adding depth to the ensemble's character.
Umbra is recorded with two mic positions—close and room—allowing for a choice between intimate detail and a more spacious sound. The library also includes processed patches that enhance its ethereal qualities, making it suitable for scoring contexts that require a connection to the spiritual or the otherworldly.
