The Recorder is a comprehensive sample library featuring 27 meticulously crafted Baroque and Renaissance replica instruments. Developed in collaboration with performer Emily O’Brien and supported by the American Recorder Society, this library captures the essence of the recorder family through over 60 hours of recording, offering a rich palette of historical and contemporary articulations.

Details

The library includes a wide range of recorders, from soprano to contrabass, sampled chromatically across multiple articulations. Each instrument retains intimate timbre, with attention to breath and key detail. The sampling process features true legato behavior, allowing for smooth transitions between notes, and incorporates various dynamic layers for expressive performance. Articulations include sustains, tenutos, and staccatos, with round-robins ranging from 2 to 6 for natural phrasing.

Five microphone positions were utilized to capture the instruments, including a close stereo ribbon mic for detail and warmth, and a wide Faulkner array for a more spacious sound. The library's VISAGE 3 engine provides extensive control over parameters such as volume, pan, and dynamic range, along with a historical tuning and temperaments system. This allows composers to adapt the instruments to various contexts, making it suitable for both solo and ensemble work.
