Broken Wurli is a unique electric piano instrument that captures the character of a vintage Wurlitzer with a gritty, expressive tone. It features a blend of clean and distorted sounds, making it versatile for various musical styles, from classic to contemporary. The instrument's intimate timbre is enhanced by its detailed sampling, allowing for a rich, tactile playing experience.

The library includes 9 velocity layers and 3 round-robin samples per note, ensuring a realistic and dynamic response. Key-off samples and a noise layer add to the mechanical authenticity of the instrument. The Wurli was recorded using four different microphones, including vintage AKG 414s for warmth, an SM57 for dynamic clarity, and a Sennheiser e600 series mic for additional character. These were mixed down to create three distinct channels: line-out, good speaker, and broken speaker.

The instrument panel provides controls for speaker levels and a full ADSR envelope, along with an extensive filter section and tremolo control for shaping the sound. The options panel allows for velocity curve adjustments and memory management, while the effects panel includes a range of sound design tools such as auto-wah, chorus, and distortion. This comprehensive setup makes Broken Wurli suitable for both traditional electric piano sounds and more experimental soundscapes.
