Details
The instrument comprises an ensemble of four bass trombones, a bass tuba, and a contrabass tuba, delivering a range of articulations including short notes, marcatos, and dynamic effects like _sfz_ and _sffz_. The clusters consist of three adjacent semitones, allowing for a distinct sound where the played note is flanked by two others a semitone apart. This setup is ideal for creating ominous atmospheres and dramatic crescendos.
Multiple microphone positions are available, including Decca tree and close mics, providing flexibility in mixing. The library also includes extra fortississimo layers for a powerful, brassy sound. With a variety of articulations and dynamic layers, BBO Izar is well-suited for scoring that requires a blend of tension and depth, making it a valuable tool for contemporary composers.
